Handling objections, Sharpiepresents21
You’ll get them
I’ve already given you one guarantee, that if you bought ‘7 Steps’ & you don’t think it’s useful, I’ll give you your money back. Here’s another one. If you use this method & start to give lots of great presentations, you will also start to get a lot of objections . Here’s how to handle them.
Know the objections
A good sign
Having objections is a sign you’re heading in the right direction, that you are changing & surprising people. The more objections you get, the better you do, but you will need to deal with them. The first step is to know what they are. Every time you hear a objection, write it down.
Make notes
Keep notes of all your meetings & presentations. The best way to do this is live because it’s hard to remember everything afterwards. You need a colleague to help with this. If that’s not possible as soon as the presentation is finished, write down a few quick notes, include the objections .
Only a few
Normally there are only a few objections which come up often. Once you’ve started to write them down regularly it will be obvious what they are. When you know what they are, you can start to work out ways to answer them. Always stay polite, but don’t be afraid to push back against them.
Present the answers
List
One of the best ways to answer objections about what you are trying to persuade your audience is in the presentation itself. Once you know what they are likely to question, put that into your presentation & answer it. For example make a list. I once did a presentation called 7 FA ❓s & the ✅s (7 frequently asked questions & the answers).
Story
You might know your audience wants to see certain key data. If you’re presenting your company this might be how experienced your management is, how many % the major shareholders own, how much debt you have. Present these clearly in your sections on management, structure & financials.
3 things
My favorite type of presentation is the ‘3 things’. I recently presented a version which took the 3 things most Investors think have negatively affected us & showed that they hadn’t. Then. I showed the 3 things which really had affected us & how those things had now turned to positives.
Common objections
Different to others
The 7 Steps will give you other objections , also a sign you’re heading in the right direction. One is that the style is not normal. Your presentations will start to look very different. & won’t have the same standard content. That’s because you never want to be average, you want to be great.
Want more numbers
The emphasis in 7 Steps is to not have lots of data & instead to show how to analyze & look at the data in simple ways. This often ends up being an objection, so I have a file with all the data which can be easily shared with anyone I’m presenting to, even during the presentation,
Change the topic
In the ‘7 Steps’ you have to decide your theme. What you want your audience to know. It’s possible that your audience has a different idea they want to focus on, especially if that audience is only one. Give them what they want & then with practice you will be able to link back to your theme.
It’s a good sign
Handling objections is a sign you’re heading in a great direction. It’s about keeping notes, learning common objections , working out responses, answering in your presentation & having back up when needed. I also guarantee the ‘7 Steps’ will give you the creativity to answer anything.
Be a great presenter!
