30m
Here’s a fun fact for you. How many presentations do you think are made every day? Apparently the number is 30m! I love these kinds of reported data because how do we know? Anyways it’s a lot. Probably mostly made on PowerPoint.... But here’s a question for you. Why? Why are all those people making those millions of presentation?
Me
Charge
To give you my suggested answer, here’s 3 real life stories about 3 presenters. The first one is about myself. Just under 10 years ago, I suddenly decided I wanted to change career, but I didn’t have any idea how to go about executing on this change. But I carried on doing my job & soon met a company I wanted to join.
Present
Again there was a challenge. I couldn’t work out how to ask the company or even what to ask them for. Then as our work together developed, I had an opportunity to make a very short presentation, a speech about the company at an investor lunch in HK. Instead of the expected, I decided to give everyone a surprise.
2m for 2m
Instead of going through the details of the deal which anyone could read from the pages in front of them, I talked about the industry, the company & the management & how they blended together to make the perfect investment. A week later, the management contacted me & I joined to present the company. Up to today this has earned me about $2m.
Grant Cardone
Property
Grant Cardone is an entrepreneur I’ve come across in the last couple of years. He is a sales expert with a great sales training business. He puts all profits into a real estate investment company which buys multi family property developments in the US. Cardone Capital now owns $1bn worth of properties.
10X
Grant Cardone is Mr 10X. He wrote a book (one of 7) about how to 10X your life. This has turned into quite a large global movement of which I’m proud to be a part. Every year he organizes a 10X Growth Conference, 3 days of guest speakers. This year’s event was in Miami & almost 35,000 people attended.
$25m
Grant has now opened up his property portfolio as a fund which individual investors can buy into. At the conference he made a presentation of the fund & gave a pitch to the audience to subscribe. Many people did & he ended up getting over $20m from investors in the audience. A one hour presentation for $20m.
Steve J
Inventor
Steve Jobs is of course famous as the man who confounded Apple. He was obsessed with making personal computing devices which started with the Mac & later the MacBook personal computers. After a later rerun to Apple we got the iPod for music, the iPhone & iPad. After his death we got the Apple Watch, Airpoda & Apple Pencil.
Presenter
What all these devices also had in common was they were launched to the world in an Apple presentation. Steve Jobs was the greatest presenter. Not only were his launch presentations legendary, Apple continues to use the same format today. Many other companies have also tried to copy the same style.
$1tn
Those presentations became the main marketing tool for Apple. Sales surged with each new product launch & last year, Apple reached a market value of $1 trillion. This was the first time in history any company has reached that level & for a brief few months, Apple was worth more than the whole Indonesian economy.
Alexander
In the immortal words of Steve Jobs when he launched the first iPhone...’Are you getting it? ‘ People make presentations for money. That’s it. My son Alexander when he wants to buy something makes a presentation to me on why I should pay for it. You & your team probably present to your board to get your project budget approved. Everyone presents for money.
If you want to get more money...
Get great at presenting!
