I finally added another one of the extra chapters to the audio version of the ebooollet 7 Steps to Making A Great Presentation. As it’s fresh in my mind after re reading it, I thought this week I’d write out the main points of Chapter 12, the Numerology of Presenting. After reading please give the chapter a listen as there’s plenty of extras in the full version. Here’s a précis.
Seven
The first number we use for presenting is related to the process of making the presentation & is of course my favorite number, 7, as in the 7 Steps. It’s not only my favorite number it’s the world’s favorite number. Why? It’s had a lot of uses throughout history & it’s perfect in being not too big & not too small. Just right for a working system.
Three
Our second most important number for presentations is for the content & happens to be also the world’s second favorite number, 3. It has also been used throughout history & in this case more specifically for telling stories, making presentations & giving speeches; for example beginning, middle & end. Use 3 word titles, 3 data point charts & 3 bullet point slides.
One
Our third number for making great presentations is for the philosophy of the 7 Steps & is the simplest number of all, one. The 7 Steps is based around presenting only one key theme or idea to your audience so it’s easy for them to understand & more importantly easy to ask for & get them to take action on. Plus remember one slide is only one thing, idea, chart, photo, at a time.
Timing
On top of the three numbers which define the 7 Steps, use numbers to match your presentation perfectly with the amount of time you are supposed to talk for. Your audience will be delighted if you finish earlier than expected. Present in 60 word tweets & calculate based on 100 words per minutes talking to work out how many chapters, topics & subtopics your time allow for.
Be a great presenter!
